Ed van der Kooy (1956):
After studying at The Royal Academy of The Hague Ed van der Kooy has become fascinated and strongly influenced by eastern cultures.
Over the last forty years he has travelled widely in Nepal and the surrounding countries. Exploring the Himalayas with a sketch book and pencil he made many friends - drawing the children, the old men and the many characters encountered in these remote mountain villages. A recent trip to Mustang on the border of Tibet and Nepal made a great impression on him and his current work reflects this connection with Asia.
Many of his paintings are life size portraits of Asian women wearing traditional dress. The rich, intricate designs and colours of the fabrics illustrate and complement his talent as a portrait artist. The exuberance, detail and sheer grandeur of his paintings are the result of many months of work.
